Stitched Thanks Background | Make the Cards Challenge #28

Hello and welcome back!

For today's Make the Cards Challenge #28 post, I've used a lot of stitching! This is an Old School themed challenge and you can basically use as much of any of the items listed in the challenge post. To keep it simple, I stuck to stitching. I chose to use a stitching die with a nice stitched background and that's how this card came to life. Below I've posted a video and the challenge post. You can always click the challenge #28 link above to get back to the website and check out the details. And don't forget to check out the other designer's posts for inspiration and link your project for a chance to be this week's featured designer!

The challenge post is below. As mentioned, you can use whatever it is you would like of what is listed.

I started by using the Spellbinders Stitched Thanks Die set with some Clear Path Deep Sea Blue cardstock to cut out the main stitched piece. Then I used some Embroidery Floss/Thread to stitch the images in olive green, dark pink, light pink, blue and yellow. You can't use the thread as is because it would be too thick and would tear your cardstock. So these threads come as 6 pieces of string to make one thread. I split it into 3 sets of 2 pieces of string which was perfect for this technique. So each piece of thread I used to stitch this was using 2 strings from the embroidery thread. I hope this makes sense (if not, the video really helps).

I used some washi tape and then some surgical tape to stick the loose ends to the back of the cardstock. Be careful, because this can make the back of your cardstock thick so try and tape the loose ends in different areas. I also used some metallic string to go over different areas of the stitching to add some shine. You don't have to do this, but it adds interest. This is a nice relaxing thing to do in front of the TV and I assure you I didn't record my entire time stitching this as it did take a bit of time.

Once complete, I worked on the rest of the card front as follows:

- Die cut letters twice, once from light pink Recollections cardstock and once from Sizzix Gold Metallic Mirror Cardstock

-Adhere pink letters on top of mirror cardstock in offset manner to create shadow, with BearlyArt glue

- Use PinkFresh Studio Diagonal Stitched Plaid Die to partial die cut background to create slimline length background using Clear Path Deep Sea Blue cardstock (size 7 3/4" x 3 1/4")

- Foam mount the letters onto the stitched piece

- Foam mount the stitched piece onto the diagonal stitched slimline background

In this case, I am not going to attach and embellish my card front until the very end, so I can decorate the card inside.

For the inside, I used a 7" x 8" center-folded base using white heavy weight cardstock.

- stamp out the sentiment from the Altenew Say It With Love stamp set using masking technique to stamp printed sentiment in VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink and the scripty sentiment in Concord & 9th Grapefruit Ink

- die cut florals and leafy elements using Spellbinders Simply Perfect Layered Blooms die set -  use similar colours of cardstock that match the thread on the card front and some Sizzix Gold Metallic Mirror Cardstock

- Assemble die cuts and arrange them on card inside in top right and bottom left corners, adhere them

Finally, attach the card front to the card base with some Be Creative tape and Tombow Mono dot runner. Then embellish the front and flower centers with varying sizes of AB Crystal Lollibeads, as desired.

And that's my card for this week! I hope you've been inspired by this card and please feel free to leave a comment as I love hearing from you!
