Faux Geode Look With Alcohol Inks

 Hello and Happy New Year!

I took a long break for the holidays to spend time with the family and now I'm ready to share with you my first cards of 2022!

I'll be using vibrant alcohol inks with Pinata Brass and gold glitter embossing powder to create this cool geode look on these cards. I even went ahead and made one in the Pantone of 2022, Very Peri. These cards are so pretty and you can add any sentiment to customize these for any occasion.

So let's get started!

I used 1- 5"x7" and 3 - 4.25 x 5.5" white YUPO cardstock panels for these cards. I started by adding my 90% IPA with a pipette to the top half of the YUPO.  Then I added my desired colour (Stream, Sailboat Blue, Cool Peri and Amethyst) of alcohol inks on top. Once I had built up enough colour on the top of the panel, I added the Pinata Brass along with more colour just below the center of the panel. In the end this covers 3/4 of the panel with 1/4 left white. The main thing to focus on is to concentrate the brass near the bottom so the look goes from colour to brass to white.

I then let this dry a bit and added some Encore Metallic Gold Pigment ink along the center or bottom of the brass section. I then heat embossed this area with Zing Gold Glitter embossing powder. This really gives the panel a geode look. If you wanted you could add another layer of glue and glitter on top, but I chose to stop here as I thought it was glittery enough.

Once my panels were complete, I cut them down to size and kept the little strips I had cut off aside for later. I cut out some sentiments and images for each using the following products and arranged and adhered them to my panels with BearlyArt Glue and foam squares:

Stream panel - Simon Says Stamp Thinking of You Die from vellum and Sizzix Opulent Gold Mirror cardstock , Spellbinders Handing You A Smile Dies from white and gold cardstock to make a couple flower stems

Sailboat Blue panel - C9 Thinking of You Perfect Pairings Dies cut out of blue and white cardstock, PinkFresh Studio Curvy Leaves cut out of Shimmer Gold Vellum

Amethyst Panel - Simon Says Stamp Etched Laurel Leaves cut out of Sizzix Opulent Gold Glitter cardstock, PinkFresh Studio Hello Phrase Builder Dies cut out of vellum and gold cardstock and Spellbinders Simple Sentiments Plates used to foil the "Hello" only with Spellbinders Polished Brass foil

Cool Peri - PinkFresh Studio Solid Plate with Spellbinders Lavendar Pastel Foil and Pink and Main Hello dies (cut out of white cardstock). For this, I cut out the hello with the die and then foiled it using the solid plate and the lavendar foil. This nicely added the foil to my die cut sentiment.

After I had arranged all of these pieces on the card fronts, I cut out my card bases which were 3 A2 and 1 A7 sized card bases. I then took the small strips I had cut off of each panel and attached them with some Sizzix Opulent Gold Pearl strips to the bottom left and top right corners of the card inside to add interest. I left the centers of the cards blank to add a sentiment later, when I know where these cards will be used but I did add a sentiment from the Altenew Engraved Flowers set using some VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink and Altenew Emerald ink to the Stream-coloured A7 card.

Finally, I adhered the card fronts to the card bases and added some bling with my Emerald & AB crystal Lollibead Gems and some PinkFresh Studio Jewels. These really lit up the cards and made them complete!

And there you have my Faux Geode cards which would work nicely as Thank You cards right after Christmas! I hope you have been inspired and as always, thanks for stopping by. Please don't forget to leave me a comment, as I love hearing from you!
